SDF Rendering System 1.0b in Shoebox 4 and later July 1998 The Script Description File (SDF) rendering system provides basic non-Roman script rendering support in Shoebox for Windows. A Dynamic Link Library (dll) is used to render the script in a Shoebox window. The SDF Editor program (Win 95 only) is used to create and modify the Script Description Files (*.sdf). Documentation is provided in the SDF Editor Help file. To enable use of SDF in Shoebox, place a copy of your Script Description File (*.SDF) in the same folder as your Shoebox Project file (*.PRJ). Then open your project in Shoebox. Open the Language Encoding that you want rendered using SDF. Click on the Options tab of the dialog box, and press the Advanced Options button. Here enter RENDER.DLL as the rendering DLL, and enter the name of your Script Description File (*.SDF) as the table. Technical note: Shoebox will automatically add "16" or "32" to the name of the rendering DLL, i.e. when you specify "render.dll" Shoebox will call either render16.dll or render32.dll as appropriate. See the SDF Editor Help file (sdfe.hlp) for further information on SDF. SDF Files: Shoebox Setup installs these files for the SDF rendering feature- Sdfe.exe SDF Editor for Win95 Sdfe.hlp SDF Editor Help Render16.dll/Render32.dll SDF rendering dll The SDF Editor won't be installed for Win 3.1 users , but the Help file will be because it contains some information that will still be beneficial. Various SDF sample files will also be installed in Shoebox's Sample\SdfSamp folder (if you choose to install Samples). Right-To-Left Text Reverser --------------------------- Shoebox is able to print SDF-rendered text directly to the printer. If you need to do formatting and page layout of the rendered text, you can Export it as RTF from Shoebox and then format it in Microsoft Word (or another Windows word processor). But right-to-left (RTL) scripts will need some extra help to work in Word. Specifically, use the provided "Right-To-Left Text Reverser" (RTLrev) utility if your Shoebox database contains SDF-rendered text in a right-to-left script and you want to export it and print it using a non-Middle-East (e.g. English) edition of Microsoft Windows and Word. To use the RTLrev system, follow the instructions in the "SDF- RTL Reverser Doc" (rtlrev.txt).
