General comments: In Oapan Chrysididae are generally called either tlatsiwistli or a:nmatsi:n in Nahuatl. The first seems to be the primary meaning. Tlatsiwistli derives from the Nahuatl intransitive verb tlatsiwi to be lazy and can best be translated as laziness. They swarm a r o u n d p e o p l e s f a c e s , a p p a r e n t l y a t t r a c t e d t o s w e a t . I would guess that tsatsiwistli is used for Halictidae and then extended to Chrysididae given the similar metalic appearance. Some speakers distinguish between two types of tlatsiwistli, black and green. To date two Halictidae have been collected: Agapostemon nasutus Smith, 1853 and Halictus ligatus Say, 1837 The second term applied to Chrysididae is a:nmats:n, derived from Spanish nima (soul). This name derives from the fact that these insects come to ones home, fly in and about and then leave. They are said to be like souls of the deceased that come to visit their survivors. One a:nmats:n that was caught was a hoverfly, Ornidia obesa Fabricius In general, then, one might suppose a classification scheme of tlatsiwistli (laziness) tli:lihki (black) xoxo:hki (green) a:nmats:n (soul [usually green-metalic]) The former is prototypically a sweat bee, extended to Chrysididae, and the latter a hoverfly, also extended to Chrysididae. The difference would seem to be the environment in which the Chrysididae is found.
