<H1 class="portal"><A name="IDX_wsgcOver1"></A>Overview of FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 Administration</H1>

<p>FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 can be administered in two ways: by using the <a href="wsgGloss.htm#HTMLAdministrationPages" class="glossterm"> HTML Administration
pages</a>
(<b>Server Administration</b> and <b> Site Administration </b> pages) and by using
operations on the command line.</p>
<h2>Server Administration </h2>
<p>Use the <b> Server</b> <b> Administration</b>  page to administer FrontPage Server Extensions 2002
for your entire server
computer. To view the <b> Server</b> <b> Administration</b>  page, 
you must be a member of the <a href="wsgGloss.htm#localadministratorsgroup" class="glossterm"> local administrators group</a>
on the server computer. </p>
<p>You can use the Server Administration page to do the following:</p>
<UL>
  <LI>View the list of <a href="wsgGloss.htm#virtualserver" class="glossterm"> virtual servers</a> on a Web server.</LI>
  <LI>Extend, upgrade, or uninstall FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on a virtual server.</LI>
  <LI>Enable or disable server settings, such as requiring <a href="wsgGloss.htm#SecureSocketsLayer" class="glossterm">Secure 
    Sockets Layer (SSL)</a> for authoring and
    administration.</LI>
  <LI>Specify which <a href="wsgGloss.htm#rights" class="glossterm">user rights</a> are available.</LI>
  <LI>Specify policies for all Web sites on the server.</LI>
  <LI>Reset passwords for users.</LI>
</UL>
<h2>Site Administration page</h2>
<p>Use the <b> Site</b> <b> Administration</b>  page&nbsp; to change settings for a particular Web site or
to manage user permissions or <a href="wsgGloss.htm#subweb" class="glossterm">subwebs</a>. </p>
<p>To open the <b> Site</b> <b> Administration</b>  page, on 
the <b> Server</b> <b> Administration</b> page, click the virtual server you
want to administer. The <b> Site</b> <b> Administration</b>  page is available to
<a href="wsgGloss.htm#administratorrole" class="glossterm"> administrators</a> of a Web site or of the server computer itself.</p>
<h2>Command-line administration</h2>
<p>Most tasks that you can perform from the <b> Server</b> <b> Administration</b> or
<b> Site
Administration</b> pages can also be performed from the command line for FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.
In addition, there are several <a href="wsgGloss.htm#properties" class="glossterm"> properties</a> you can set from the command line that
you cannot set from the administration pages. For more information about using
